IGAD WANT FEMALE APPOINTED AS VICE-PRESIDENT IN SOUTH SUDAN

Loading...
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has asked South Sudan’s parties to nominate a woman as Vice-President according to the revitalized peace proposal.

“You are required to maintain 35% of women representation at all levels of government and to appoint a woman as one of the vice presidents,” Workneh Gebeyehu, Chairperson of the IGAD Council of Ministers said on Wednesday.

He also urged the warring parties not to use inflammatory media campaigns after the peace talks have been called off in Addis Ababa.

“Respect each other and above all respect the South Sudanese people,” he said.

Workneh, who is also the Ethiopian foreign minister, hoped that the IGAD compromise position will help the South Sudanese parties to reach a peace agreement.
